We would like to remind you that due to the forthcoming UN climate summit COP24 in Katowice, from November 22 to December 16, control will be reinstated on Poland’s borders with the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania and Slovakia.
Reinstatement of border controls is a safeguard element of the December COP24 conference (3-14 December 2018), in which over 30,000 people from nearly 200 countries are to take part. The inspections are to be of an ad hoc nature and will be carried out on specific days and hours and at selected places on the roads crossing the borders. The Border Guard mobile patrols will be using the so-called schengenbuses, equipped with portable devices with access to databases and used to verify the authenticity of documents. On the highways, random checks will be carried out on the basis of vehicle typing and directing them to checkpoints at Customer Service Points.
During the period in which the inspections will be in force, all travelers crossing the borders of Poland must carry with them valid documents confirming their identity and citizenship (identity card or passport). Third-country nationals, as before, must carry a passport and documents that entitles the holder to stay in the territory of Poland (eg visas).
The inhabitants of Katowice will face traffic difficulties, especially in the area of the International Congress Centre and the Spodek Katowice. From November 25, some streets in Katowice will be closed.
